The tower of Babel, Not a biblical myth?

The thing is, didnt "god" get angry because people want to make a great building and make a name for themselves. Well, we've reached space and even landed on the moon, why hasn't god destroyed any of that, and why can some people speak several languages? You'd think god would kill those people immediately.
